FAR CRY: FORT REDUX
Recreating a level from Far Cry 1 in CryEngine 3.
Project Brief
In 2004, Crytek GmbH released Far Cry 1, the first in the subsequent series, which was a first-person shooter set in a modern-day fictitious tropical archipelago and powered by CryEngine 1. In 2014, we sought to recreate (and add to) the look and feel of the first game, utilizing CryEngine 3. We took the two levels Fort and Pier, which took place over one island, converted the heightmap, and by using screenshots to determine key structure placement and environment design, we wanted to see how much we could build (using in-engine assets + modelling) in 12 months.
In December of 2015, Dark Side of Gaming reported on the project, and was shared all around the world. We shortly after provided the project as a free-to-play download for one month.
