STUDYvault was initially a simple batch-file written after a loss of data and assessments in early years of undergrad University, which mirrored assignments to a portable hard drive. It was later revised as a standalone installable application for Mac and Windows, and packaged on a small and durable 16GB flash disk. The user was prompted to plug the disk in & leave it in, only removing the disk to recover assignments should it be needed.

The application’s backing algorithm would routinely scan the user’s documents directory for file and folder names commonly associated with student work and index them, and then back these files up when the user clicked an icon in the taskbar (Windows) or dock (mac).
